CHAPTER 13: THE WORLDS OF THE FIFTEENTH CENTURY
Paleolithic Persistence:
Definition: The persistence with the life style ways. from the paleolithic era. Like for example to maintain the way of obtaining food by practicing the hunter gatherer technique. Which still existed in some parts of Africa in the fifteenth century but as more interaction began to occur the more people's perspectives changed and adopted new ways of life style. Such as agriculture and growing crops.

Benin:
Definition: Benin was city in Africa. The language of the people was the Yoruba-speaking people of Africa. They were famous for the amazing bronze sculptures that the Benin people made.

Igbo:
Definition: Yoruba-speaking people who lived in Nigeria, Africa. They were famous for rejecting kingship and creating a different government. They also rejected state-building options. The Igbo wanted to be separate "tribes." The Igbo people were known by their culture. One of the popular sports in the Igbo tribe was wrestling. In this wrestling they would compete to show their superiority in the tribes.

Iroquois:
Definition: Known as the "native" people of North America. People in the Iroquois also rejected the kingship. The Iroquois people also had struggles with agriculture. They competed against other groups of people with agriculture.

Timur:
Definition: Chinggis Khan was one of the leaders of the Turkish warriors. The Timur empire was located next to the Timurid Empire. Chinggis Khan was one of the warriors that brought much horror disasters to places such as India and Russia.

Fulbe:
Definition: Fulbe was one of the largest well known pastoral societies that were located in Africa. The Fulbe people settled in small different colonies. These colonies cultivated goods such as corn and was well known around Africa for having good agriculture.

Ming Dynasty China:
Definition: The Ming Dynasty's main religion was Confucianism. The government of the Ming Dynasty consisted of elected officials. Those elected officials had to take a civil service exam to determine who was the official elected to represent and serve this dynasty. Emperor took over the Ming Dynasty. Tried to hide the fact that the Mongols took rule of the Ming Dynasty at one point.

Zheng He:
Definition: One of the elected officials of the Ming Dynasty. He was elected by the Ming emperor to go explore the sea. To go to maritime to search other places around the Ming Dynasty. He was native of Arabia. And before elected to go explore he was a sailor.

European Renaissance:
Definition: Driven from Greek traditions. Occurred form
A renewal of classical Greek traditions that had previously been obscured or viewed through the lens of Arabic or Latin translations

Ottoman Empire:
Definition: The Ottoman contained a lot of territory that consisted of parts of Eastern Europe, parts of Arabia and small amounts of North Africa. They were also known as Turks because they are located in present day Turkey. The main religion of the Ottoman empire was the Islamic and Muslim religions.

Seizure of Constantinople(1435):
Definition: It was the capital of the Eastern part of the Roman empire. Constantinople was founded in 330 C.E. This city had a high guard and a very good economy. It was known as the city that controlled trading networks.

Safavid Empire:
Definition: The Safavid Empire was located next to the Ottoman Empire and Mughal Empire. Before it was known as the Safavid Empire the property was ruled by Persia from the sixteenth century until the eighteenth century. Most of the Safavid empire drew from older and similar traditions like the Ottoman empire tradition. This empire was known having cultural blendings which were difficult to find in other empires. So the Safavid empire stood out from the rest.

Songhay Empire:
Definition: An empire that was located in West Africa. Three of the most famous cities in the Songhai empire were Jenne, Gao and Timbuktu. This empire ended up collapsing the 1500. Famous for having being a learning and commerce empire.

Timbuktu:
Definition: Timbuktu was a city in the Songhay empire. This city was controlled by the Songhay Empire. One of the greatest cities in this empire. Contained a large trading market that would trade goods in different cities and empires. Timbuktu was known for being trade of the Songhay Empire.

Mughal Empire:
Definition: This empire was located in India and was mostly populated by Hindu people. Mostly Muslim and Islamic people populated this empire. The Mughal Empire contained cities like Goa, Channai, Kokata, and Agra. This empire flourished in 1526 and ended in 1857. And this empire dominated the surrounding places during the sixteenth century.

Malacca:
Definition: Malacca was a city located in a waterway that's why it was so popular. This city was located between the other two cities of Sumatra and Malaya. It started from the bottom then it was a major port for trading of other Muslim empires.

Aztec Empire:
Definition: The Aztec empire was populated by a mesoamerican civilization. This empire began in 1519. The core state of the Aztecs was Teochitlan. Other non known states were Tlaxcala, Teotitlan, Mixtec and Zapotec. Expanded in the fifteenth century. Established a counting system, religious sacrifices and calendars to keep track of the days and years. Every 52 years the Aztecs would believe that the world would end that's why they offered religious sacrifices. Worshiped the Sun God Huitzilopotchli.

Inca Empire:
Definition: Andean Civilization that populated the Inca Empire. This empire flourished and began in South America in modern day it's known as Peru, Ecuador, Chile and Argentina combined. Which meant that the Inca empire was large in size. Their language was derived from the Quechua language. This empire was started in 1450 and collapsed in 1532. It's major success was in the fifteenth century. They were also known as the Andeans because they were located in Andean region. They empire controlled over 2,500 miles of land. Which was extremely big in the fifteenth century.
