CHAPTER 17: ATLANTIC REVOLUTIONS AND THEIR ECHOES
North American Revolution:
Definition: North America versus Britain. A battle against each other to steal their land. This revolution started in 1775 and ended in 1787. With this war it was established that monarchy would no longer be their form of government. One of the first revolutions that started in this period.

French Revolution:
Definition: A democratic revolution that started after the North American revolution. With this revolution the people of France overthrowing the King Louis XVII and his wife Marie Antoinette. King Louis XVII got executed. The people tried to impose a democratic government. Then afterwards came Napoleon and dictated France.

Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen:
Definition: This document was established by the French after the French revolution. Emphasizing the things and rights that a man has. A constitution that gave man equality and the right to express their opinion. Everyone has a right to their own opinion.

Napoleon Bonaparte:
Definition: Napoleon's major rise to the empire of France was in 1799. He then try to face Britain but failed miserably. After many other defeats he got executed by the French people and died. Not liked Napoleon because of his way of trying to dictate.

Haitian Revolution:
Definition: A revolution of the slaves against the land owners. After the French Revolution because it was a successful revolt, the slaves of Haiti began to rebel. The leader of this uprising was Toussaint l'Ouverture. This revolution was successful as well and freed the slaves of Haiti.

Spanish American Revolutions:
Definition: Another slave revolt in Latin America. Napoleon also took part of this revolution. Started out in Spain. It was a revolution for separate independence of the Latin american states. Started after both the French and the Haitian revolutions.

Abolitionist Movement:
Definition: A movement practiced to free the slaves. Took place in the US and Europe. This movement did work because by a certain time everyone was considered an equal human being. Except that racism still took place which made people feel unequal.

Nationalism:
Definition: Nationalism is when someone would do anything for their nation. An absolute passion of the nation. People showed nationalism by participating in wars against other nations to prove the superiority of their nation.

Vindication of the Rights of Women:
Definition: Mary Wollstonecraft was the writer of the vindication of the rights of women. She was a British writer that believed that women should get equality too. She believed that women weren't just men pleaders and the extras to a society. They should be equal to men. Written in the 18th century.

Maternal Feminism:
Definition: Feminism trying to make women seem equal to men. After all women did give birth to men. This was an act to convince people that women should be equal to men. Both men and women should have the right to be seen as equal.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton:
Definition: A famous women American feminist. Also known for being a leading women figure of the rights of a women. Also stood up for the abolitionist movement. Born in November 12, 1815 and died in the year of 1902. She was 86 when she died and had many achievements like a feminist, leader and socialist.
